"Dude! Check out these tricks!"
Monkey see - Monkey do . . . Monkey get in trouble too!
SEO Trickery is not SEO
First of all let's be real clear about Google. They are an extremely intelligent company with incredible software. In fact, They probably know more about you than Homeland Security. They know what sites you visit, where you're going online from, where you upload files from, they see EVERYTHING on your website, and the scary list just gets bigger and bigger.
We have spoken with so many companies that believe you have to be deceitful in order to get better page ranking. Of course they don’t think its deceitful SEO tactics but Google thinks differently. A big part of what Google wants to accomplish with their search engine is to deliver the best, most qualified websites for your search. Their reputation depends on that. So if you search for local churches and porn sites come up, you might not feel like Google is a good search engine and you might not use them again.
This means that the other part of what Google does is to filter out deceptive websites, or more commonly called spammers. Spamming companies use deceptive SEO practices in order to be on more search results pages. Google spends a lot of time and money finding these deceptive practices and safeguarding against them. This is why SEO work is constantly changing.
So when a company does deceptive things to try and trick the search engines, it usually hurts them more than they will ever know. So what are some of the things that get website in trouble? Here are just a few:
You are spamming when you have massive amounts of keywords hidden throughout the pages by coloring the text the same color as the background – white letters on white background. This way the page looks like it has blank space but the words are being picked up by the spiders.
It is bad to own multiple sites that are basically the same pointing to you own multiple sites. It is even worst if they are all on the same server.
Be careful being on one of these monster servers with thousands of other websites. These clearance house style web hosting companies sell to anyone and the more they sell to the better the chance that you will loose points. This is because a spamming company on a shared server punishes all sites on that shared server.
There is a lot of talk about having inbound links on your site with good ranking. There are many link farms that have good ranking but they might not be specific to your industry or theme. Many times they are just advertising sponsor links and look like a spamming site. Be careful – these sites are not helpful.
Many people believe the more keywords you have the better ranking you’ll get. The challenge here is that it appears to be spam because they are not using them in the body of the web pages. It's deceptive and you’ll loose points for it.
We could fill pages and pages of deceptive SEO tactics but suffice it to say, if you’re not sure about the tactics you're using you might want to reconsider them.
